This research aims to understand how neurogenesis is regulated by applying in vitro (cultured
neural progenitors) and in vivo models (the brain of teleost fish). Understanding how different
factors can affect proliferation, migration, survival and differentiation of neural progenitor cells
in culture represents either an alternative or a preliminary step to in vivo studies. Data on fish
neurogenesis can be relevant to both the fields of evolutionary biology and brain
physiology/repair.
